Introduction

With global warming, many countries in the world are facing the challenges of heatwave, drought, flooding, land degradation, snow/glacier melting, sea-level rise and urbanization, which threat the human well being and ecological environment in present and the future. Successful disaster risk reduction (DRR) and disaster management very much relies on multi-disciplinary and trans-sectorial initiatives, as well as public-private partnerships around the world. In 1989, the United Nations General Assembly officially proclaimed the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (UN-IDNDR) by developing concerted international actions to reduce disaster-induced casualty, property damage, and socioeconomic disruption. In the past 30 years, under the coordination of the UN, especially with the efforts of the UN Office for DRR in recent 20 years, the disaster reduction, disaster prevention, disaster relief and reconstruction have made remarkable achievements in the world with the strong support of governments and the extensive participation of various stakeholder groups.

Beijing Normal University, Qianhai Shenzhen-Hongkong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone of Shenzhen, and Global Risk Forum GRF Davos jointly organized the International Symposium on Integrated Governance of Large-scale Disaster and Economic Risks in 2017. One of the outcomes of the Symposium is that the sponsors agreed to hold this event every two year in Qianhai, Shenzhen for the purpose of promoting scientific knowledge, technology, and practical solutions on integrated risk governance in order to achieve the goals of green development.
